"We die. That may be the meaning of life. But we do language.
That may be the measure of our lives." - Toni Morrison

"Growing up Southern is a privilege, really. It's more than where you're born; it's an idea and state of mind that seems imparted at birth. It's more than loving fried chicken, sweet tea, football, and country music. It’s being hospitable, devoted to front porches, magnolias, moon pies, coca-cola... and each other. We don't become Southern - we're born that way." - Unknown

library love

I can't believe I haven't written about this before, so here we go.
I love, love, love the Harold B. Lee Library. I cannot explain how great this building is. Being an English major, I have a soft spot for all things book related, and often just enjoy aimlessly wandering the library floors simply to find new and exciting things. I also kind of die a little bit inside every time I think about the day when I won't have access to the databases and ability to check out books anymore.

Here are some things that I find particularly amazing:

2nd floor: Periodicals. This section has moving shelves. Yes, that's right, the shelves move. It's wicked cool. It also makes me feel like I'm in Harry Potter.
4th floor: Juvenile Fiction. It has that amazing mural featured above that's based on this piece. Going there and reading kids' books is simply the best.
1st floor: Special Collections. So many first editions. You have to leave your belongings in a locker, be escorted into a room, get locked in, handed the item through a window, and then get escorted back out. Oh, and you also have to have a legitimate excuse to look at the stuff from the vault.
6th floor: I'm not quite sure what's up there. The stairs end on a landing with a row of locked doors. It's my goal to go into those doors before I graduate.

With it being 2 1/2 football fields long, holding over 6 million items, and having over 98 miles of shelving, seriously, what's not to love about this place?

You left out the music section of the 4th floor. That was another place I was excited about. I practically lived on the 4th floor while I was on campus and not in class

Neener Neener. I know what's on the 6th floor. That's where I used to work. I used to get to go into the vault too. The library totally ROCKS!
