"Growing up Southern is a privilege, really. It's more than where you're born; it's an idea and state of mind that seems imparted at birth. It's more than loving fried chicken, sweet tea, football, and country music. It’s being hospitable, devoted to front porches, magnolias, moon pies, coca-cola... and each other. We don't become Southern - we're born that way." - Unknown

two down, several more to go

Success! I ate lunch at San Jose yesterday and visited marching band practice. It helped that I had to pick up my cousin from practice...gave me a good excuse to go besides the fact that I'm that graduate who keeps coming back to visit just because I can.
Lunch was most excellent, as always. San Jose is one of my favorite places to eat. It is locally owned, and run by the nicest people in the world; their food is amazing. It is also the unspoken "place to go" in Lugoff. After any big school/church/community/family event, people flock to this lovely little white building that nearly shares its parking lot with the Piggly Wiggly. You are always guaranteed to run into someone you know there. It's just that popular, and when your town only has a population of about seven thousand, seeing people you know around town is practically inevitable.

Band practice was fun to watch. They are only in their second full week of practice, so you can imagine the problems . . . people still aren't sure where their drill spots are, tempos are all over the place, and not everyone has their music memorized. Even still, watching them made me miss my days in the Lugoff-Elgin Marching Pride. Not enough to want to go back though. I just have so many wonderful, wonderful memories from high school band.
