Today in English class was actually rather uneventful, and for whatever reason my brain was just not with me today. Maybe it's the fact that we were just studying essays written by famous authors rather than their actual works. All throughout class I kept signing the sign for "boring," sincerely hoping the whole time that my professors don't know ASL. We discussed "Self Reliance" by Ralph Waldo Emerson, and I had a particular difficulty penning the word "self". I kept leaving the "l" out and had to go back and fit it into the word each time. It also didn't help that it was an absolutely GORGEOUS day outside today, and that my class is in the Maeser Building. (The only building on campus containing classrooms with windows.) I gazed longingly outside at the sunshine filtering through the trees for a good 2 hours; my longing gaze only interrupted by text messages, some actual sporadic note taking, and my friend Bryce leaning over to me and saying "You know, if we were actually following this guy's [Emerson's] ideas, we would leave this class and go outside to enjoy it". That idea was altogether almost too enticing to me, and I seriously considered packing up my bag and walking out the door, yes the glass door, that goes directly from my classroom into the blissful beauty that was the outdoors today. Alas, I did not give in to such temptation, but endured the class.
Then, had an evening consisting of dinner group followed by ASL club,
45 minutes of signing to someone who knows absolutely no ASL,
(but who understood me incredibly well)
Gilmore Girls,
and blogging.
All of this together = a great Wednesday.
