"We die. That may be the meaning of life. But we do language.
That may be the measure of our lives." - Toni Morrison

"Growing up Southern is a privilege, really. It's more than where you're born; it's an idea and state of mind that seems imparted at birth. It's more than loving fried chicken, sweet tea, football, and country music. It’s being hospitable, devoted to front porches, magnolias, moon pies, coca-cola... and each other. We don't become Southern - we're born that way." - Unknown

8 December 1980:
This day tops VH1 Classic's list of the most shocking moments in rock and roll history; the day Mark Chapman murdered John Lennon.

So now, if I may, I'd like to pay a small tribute to the man who was so inspirational to so many people. I'd like to start off with the influence that John Lennon, though we were never alive at the same time, had on me. Lennon's ideas about the world and its inhabitants are some of the most fascinating views I've ever read. They emanate through his poignant lyrics every time I listen, and touch my soul. Sometimes I just don't understand why people can't really listen to what he had to say. Sure, people "listen" to his music and his ideas, but I think if people really took the time to truly listen to his music, the world would be in a much better place. Take these two quotes for example: "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality", and "If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace." Think about it for a minute. Really stop and think about the impact we could have as a nation/world if we adhered to these prolific words. I earnestly wish that everyone could just understand what John Lennon tried to tell people.
What an amazing man. May he rest in peace.

I'm trying to comment here for the 3rd time. It better take!

I remember when John Lennon died. I was in the 10th grade. (yes, I'm that old). One of my best friends mourned for days.

He was a brilliant musician and lyricist. Music lost a star talent when he died.

Nice tribute. He was in fact brilliant. I was 21 at the time and terribly saddened by the fact that the world could be so ugly.
