"Growing up Southern is a privilege, really. It's more than where you're born; it's an idea and state of mind that seems imparted at birth. It's more than loving fried chicken, sweet tea, football, and country music. It’s being hospitable, devoted to front porches, magnolias, moon pies, coca-cola... and each other. We don't become Southern - we're born that way." - Unknown

day nineteen: a sweet memory
This is one of the last times I saw this adorable kitty:
About two months after this picture was taken, Rhubarb had to be put to sleep. She was really sick and really old. I was out at school when it happened, and here comes the sweet memory. Rhubarb was in a little bed in the bathtub the day she was put down. Early in the day, my mom called me, put the phone on speaker-phone, set the phone down by Rhubarb and left the bathroom. I had a chance to talk to her and say goodbye. Rhubarb even meowed at me over the phone. That made a really sad day just a little more bearable.

Aw. She was the best looking cat. She never seemed to show her age.
