That may be the measure of our lives." - Toni Morrison

"Growing up Southern is a privilege, really. It's more than where you're born; it's an idea and state of mind that seems imparted at birth. It's more than loving fried chicken, sweet tea, football, and country music. It’s being hospitable, devoted to front porches, magnolias, moon pies, coca-cola... and each other. We don't become Southern - we're born that way." - Unknown

15 July 2010

today we called 911 - for real.

I woke up at 6:30 today to be at work by 7:00 for our monthly in-service meeting. This month's training was different in that we had EMTs there with us. They were observing and helping, and we acted out the scenarios as if it was really happening. We even actually called 911. It was very helpful and informative to be able to actually act out the scenarios instead of standing around spouting off a list of what you would be doing in the case of a real emergency. They really wanted us to treat these scenarios as real emergencies. For example: one of the head paramedics acted out a heart-attack, and we even went so far as to shave his chest (what a good sport) and attach him to the AED. Overall, it was a really good in-service (even though it lasted an hour longer than it was supposed to) and we even got to ride the slides with the EMTs because they wanted to have some fun. We made trains going down the slides, and had a great time. They loved it.
