"We die. That may be the meaning of life. But we do language.
That may be the measure of our lives." - Toni Morrison

"Growing up Southern is a privilege, really. It's more than where you're born; it's an idea and state of mind that seems imparted at birth. It's more than loving fried chicken, sweet tea, football, and country music. It’s being hospitable, devoted to front porches, magnolias, moon pies, coca-cola... and each other. We don't become Southern - we're born that way." - Unknown

remember

Today is a Veteran's Day, and along with it come some very mixed emotions.

The first emotion is that of celebration. I have an uncle and a great uncle who share the same name and this day as their birthday. This segues nicely into respect not only for my uncles, but for all of those who served, or are currently serving in the armed forces. I cannot express how grateful I am for veterans, both years past and present, and also those currently enlisted who faithfully and dutifully serve this lovely country we call home.

Anyone who knows me knows that the paratroopers of Easy Company from WWII hold a very special place in my heart. I hold them in the highest regard. They are my heroes. Simple as that. I honor them and give my solemn thanks to those who sacrificed their lives so we can live ours peacefully and without worry.

The final, and perhaps most potent emotion I feel today is sadness. Today marks the three-year anniversary of the day one of my high school friends died in a car accident. I remember that day so well; it doesn't seem like it's been three years already. My heart continues to go out to his family, especially today as we remember.
Love you and miss you, Doug.
