"We die. That may be the meaning of life. But we do language.
That may be the measure of our lives." - Toni Morrison

"Growing up Southern is a privilege, really. It's more than where you're born; it's an idea and state of mind that seems imparted at birth. It's more than loving fried chicken, sweet tea, football, and country music. It’s being hospitable, devoted to front porches, magnolias, moon pies, coca-cola... and each other. We don't become Southern - we're born that way." - Unknown

here's to happiness

i borrowed this lovely idea from this fabulous blog E. showed me once.
{and if you haven't read E's blog, you should, right now, and can find it right here}

here is my little list of ten things that make me terribly happy:
1. beach houses. and my family's annual summer stay at them.
2. thunderstorms. and sitting on huge, wrap-around porches watching and listening to them.
3. his smile, his laugh, his hair, and everything about him.
4. the combination of milk-duds and hot tamales.
5. tulips.
6. driving down the street in the middle of the night with the windows down, blaring "Free Bird" and singing the whole thing at the top of my lungs {guitar solo and all}
7. building forts, and then playing in them.
8. driving through downtown Camden, SC.
9. my freckles.
10. the feeling i get when i connect with a piece of music so deeply that it becomes a part of me, an imprint on my soul that can never, ever be erased.
