This Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning musical penned by the brilliant Jonathan Larson, relays the poignant message of remembering what is important in life: love. The musical chronicles the lives of eight people "remember[ing] a year in the life of friends," and sharing "seasons of love". One of the themes of the musical is that love is the most important aspect of your life, and that you should always remember and cherish the love that you have. This theme plays an integral part in the overarching theme of the musical, whose meaning is one of remembrance, and not taking any phase of your life, or the people in it for granted. The OBC will always be my favorite. Maybe it's the fact that they lived and worked through Jonathan Larson's death together, but there's a certain chemistry between all of them unmatched by all others. There is something so aesthetically beautiful and touching about this musical. The emotionally charged messages in this musical are made even more so by Larson's sudden death. His beautiful messages to "measure your life in love" and to celebrate "la vie boheme" epitomize Larson's vision on life. There is so much inherent beauty in this carefully and exquisitely crafted work of musical art, and I am forever grateful for it. RENT changed my life for the better. There truly is "no day but today".
Thank you Jonathan Larson.
