I love Country Music. It's the song of my homeland.
You know those crazy small towns that you
think can't possibly exist that they
(the couch just ate my phone)
sing about? "That's home ya know."
I guess it would be safe to say that Country Music is
like my security blanket when I'm away from the South.
The things that Country artists sing about bring back so many
memories of home, the people there, and the daily occurrences of Southern life.
Yes, the stuff they sing about really happens, and it's amazing.
Make fun of Country all you want.
Say it's all about cornbread, and fried chicken and small towns.
Go ahead and make fun of the twangy timbre.
But, to quote Rodney Atkins:
"These are my people. This is where I come from."
I was asked by a good friend the other day why they South is so full of regional pride, and why people who are from there never want to leave it. I told him that I couldn't rightly explain why. There's just something about the South that draws you in and enchants you. Maybe it's that Southern hospitality people always talk about. I love the South and honestly want to live there forever. The best explanation I could come up with was a quote that I found.
"The South - where roots, place, family, and tradition are the essence of identity." - Carl N. Degler
I thought that summed it up pretty well.
P.S. Everyone needs to read the book Gadsby. It's a lovely little creation written sans the letter 'e'.

I like my chicken fried too. I LOVE the south. It is the essence of my identity no matter how far away I roam. I always wish there were more authors from the south to set stories in the south for the world to understand it better. It doesn't seem to happen much though, does it?
On another note, how did things go last night?
Ditto! The South is such an integral part of me, that I don't think I could shake it no matter how hard I tried. (not that I would even ever dream of doing that)
Last night was really fun! We went out to dinner, played card games, and then watched a movie. It was a good way to spend a Friday night.
